How Much Does a Christmas Market River Cruise Really Cost in 2026?
(No fluff — just real numbers and inclusions from river cruise specialists showing side-by-side real pricing and comparisons.)
If you’ve been researching Christmas Market river cruises, you’ve probably seen a wide range in pricing – and a lot of fine print about what’s actually included. It can be very confusing deciding which one to choose if you’re not familiar with each river cruise line and what they offer. Do you choose the cheapest cruise line? The most expensive, assuming you’ll have the best service? Or something in the middle, hoping for a best of both worlds scenario?
We pulled the actual current published fares (meaning readily available public rates) for seven-night Christmas Market river cruises sailing on the Danube in the last week of November 2026, directly from each river cruise line’s website.
→ When a cruise line didn’t show cabin-by-cabin pricing for that exact week (or didn’t operate that specific week), we used its closest seven-night Danube Christmas itinerary and noted it clearly. ←
We’ve listed the prices for two adults in both a lead-in cabin (the lowest room category) and a mid-level cabin (the lowest room category that offers at least a full window, French balcony, or full outdoor balcony), ordered from least to highest price. Then we’ll show you what’s included—and what you can expect to spend onboard if it’s not all-inclusive—so you can make an accurate apples-to-apples comparison.
2026 Danube Christmas-Market Cruise Price Comparison:
Cruise line | Dates & Route (late Nov 2026/early Dec 2026) | Lead-in cabin (2 adults) | Mid-level cabin (2 adults) |
Viking | Late Nov 2026 • Danube Christmas Delights | $5,998 | $6,897 |
AmaWaterways | Nov 25 – Dec 2 • Danube Christmas Markets | $6,198 | $8,396 |
Uniworld | Nov 25 – Dec 2 • Danube Holiday Markets | $6,998 | $7,798 |
Tauck | Late Nov / early Dec 2026 • Danube Christmas Markets | $7,980 | $9,100 |
Avalon Waterways | Nov 27 – Dec 4 • Christmastime on the Danube | $8,110 | $9,540 |
Emerald Cruises | Nov 25 – Dec 2 • Christmas Markets on the Danube | $9,490 | $10,249 |
Scenic | Dec 4 – 10 • Danube Christmas Markets (with Prague option) | $11,445 | $12,380 |
Note: Prices above are river cruise-only for two adults, double occupancy (two adults sharing a room). Taxes, fees, and air are extra unless stated otherwise by the cruise line.
DISCLAIMER: All pricing and information in this article were pulled directly from each cruise line’s official website in early October 2025 and are shown for general comparison purposes only. These are not official rate quotes and should not be interpreted as guaranteed fares. River cruise pricing changes frequently based on availability, promotions, and demand, and the rates shown here may differ from those available when you’re ready to book.
→ For the best pricing and cabin selection, we recommend reserving your river cruise as soon as new sailings are announced, as the most desirable dates and stateroom categories typically sell first and prices often increase over time. This is especially true for Christmas Market river cruises, as they tend to sell out fast and early!
What’s Actually Included
Some “all-inclusive” river cruises aren’t quite as inclusive as they sound. Here’s what each brand includes in its standard fare.
Cruise line | Shore excursions | Drinks included | Gratuities | Transfers | Notables |
Viking | One included tour in every port | Beer/wine/soft drinks with lunch & dinner | Extra | Transfers with Viking-air purchase | Clean, consistent experience |
AmaWaterways | Multiple daily tours | Beer/wine/soft drinks with lunch & dinner+ | Extra | Transfers only with air/land package | Sip & Sail cocktail hour (comp daily); wellness host |
Uniworld | Multiple daily excursions | Unlimited premium beverages | Included onboard & onshore | Scheduled transfers included | True all-inclusive; boutique-hotel style |
Tauck | All tours included | Premium drinks all day | Included | Transfers included | Luxury; truly all-inclusive |
Avalon Waterways | Classic / Active / Discovery tours | Beer/wine/soft drinks with lunch & dinner | Extra | Transfers with air/land package | Lots of choice with this line |
Emerald Cruises | Daily tour + Emerald PLUS & ACTIVE excursions | Beer/wine/soft drinks with lunch & dinner | Included | Airport transfers included | Consistent inclusions for price point |
Scenic | Freechoice & Enrich excursions | Premium beverages all day | Included | Transfers included | Ultra-luxury, fully inclusive |
Note: WIFI is included at no additional charge on all river cruise lines mentioned here.
Real-World Spend: What You’ll Actually Pay
To see the true value, you have to factor in what you’d spend onboard for tips and drinks on lines that don’t include them.
Typical extra | Estimated for two guests / 7 nights | Applies to: |
Gratuities | ~ $350 – $450 | Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon |
Drinks outside meals | ~ $100+ | Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon |
Total likely onboard spend | ~ $450 – $550 | For lines not all-inclusive |
That “budget” Viking cruise realistically looks more like a starting price of $6,448 to well over $7,500 per couple when you add in more quality daily excursions (like the ones offered from AmaWaterways or Uniworld) while the $6,198 starting price for the AmaWaterways cruise may realistically cost closer to $6,650+ once you add those gratuity & drinks/wine extras.
Meanwhile, the $6,998 Uniworld cruise initially appears higher but already includes gratuities and unlimited drinks (and is a higher-end luxury experience with fantastic food onboard!), making the real cost surprisingly close to what initially seemed like the more “budget” focused options.
What these numbers are telling you:
- There’s strong value at “mid-luxury”: AmaWaterways and Uniworld are both under ~$8.5K for a French-balcony level for two on those exact late-November dates, with Uniworld including gratuities & all-day drinks – which narrows the real-world gap between them and the budget lines even further when you factor onboard spend.
- Entry price leader “on paper”: Viking’s widely advertised from $2,999 per person and sets an initial low entry point, though balcony/french-balcony can climb fast + gratuities, more advanced tours & excursions, and all-day drinks are extra.
- Bundled, no-surprises luxury models: Tauck and Scenic carry higher sticker prices but include premium drinks all day, gratuities, and signature experiences that you won’t see with the budget to moderate and starting luxury river cruise lines, so this greatly minimizes surprise add-ons. You’ll no doubt receive a true luxury or upper luxury experience, but with the appropriate price tag to match.
Emerald sits nicely in the value luxury niche: starting at $4,745 per person with tips included, it’s competitive if you’re looking to accept a lower category room to receive a more “lead in luxury” experience all around.
Which Cruise Fits You Best?
Best value for a mid-luxury traveler:
AmaWaterways offers solid inclusions and outstanding service at a moderate price point.
Best “no-surprises” all-inclusive luxury experience:
Uniworld and Scenic build everything in – premium beverages, tips, transfers, and top-tier dining – for a true luxury experience.
Best entry-level option:
While it may initially seem like it would be Viking, since they show the lowest starting fare, for just $100 more per person for the entire week, you could have booked AmaWaterways and had a much better overall experience, including additional included drinks, more excursions, better food, and even better service. For the best entry-level option, our vote goes to AmaWaterways.
Best for upscale, guided experiences:
Tauck is in a category of its own – curated, small group touring with expert guides and premium inclusions. You’ll immediately feel the luxury difference once you’re onboard.
Best value-inclusive balance:
You can’t go wrong with Emerald, as they offer included gratuities and transfers and sit nicely between that mid-range and luxury river cruise line zone.
Yellow Umbrella Take
When you look at pricing alone, it’s easy to assume that one Christmas river cruise costs far more than another. But the truth is, what matters most is what’s included for that price. Once you factor in gratuities, excursions, beverages, and other onboard experiences, you’ll often find that the difference between river cruise lines – and even between cabin categories – is much smaller than it first appears. The key is to understand the full picture, not just the starting fare.
